A: Upon completion of the Defensive Driving Course, your participation is reported to the New Jersey Chapter of the National Safety Council. (NJSC) The NJSC will take approximately 1-week to report your attendance to the Motor Vehicle Commission. The Motor Vehicle Commission typically takes 6-8 weeks to deduct the points from your drivers license. Q: Last year I was forced to attend MVC's Driver Improvement Program (DIP) to avoid having my license suspended. Can I still take this course? A: Yes. However, if you voluntarily took a 2- point reduction course with anyone other than MVC you may not take another course for point reduction for 5 years. Q: I am on my parents insurance policy. How would taking this course affect their insurance rates? A: If there are multiple people on the policy, the discount shall apply to the student's portion of the policy.
